We trim shrubs six times per year so that they always look neat and well maintained. Many times we only notice our shrubs when they block our pathway or view. So if you have yet to request a trimming, now is the time.
Regular grooming keeps them healthy and looking good. If you are wanting a more natural looking landscape then now is when you want to do one of your major shrub trimmings. Trimming a plant normally encourages new growth but pruning now will keep the new growth under control. The heat will slow down new growth and keep it shorter, giving you a smaller plant (than before) with some nice new leaves for the summer. It is important to keep shrubs from getting too woody. Proper trimming opens up the inner areas allowing air circulation and sun to filter inside the shrub.
